This has happened to me before. After petitioning, we still couldn't figure out why, but thought it might have something to do with the friendly Dragorn getting the kill shot. Now I AE taunt them right before she dies to be on the safe side. Hasn't poofed since.

Don't think there's a resource for that unfortunately. I vaguely recall that you get all the most useful spells at the end.
