Farewell from Akkadius

Hello Adventurers,

Unfortunately, today we have some sad news to share. Akkadius, the lead developer of EQEmu, is stepping away from the project and will be shutting down the services he has been hosting (effective Monday midnight). You can read his full farewell message on the EQEmu Discord.

It’s been hard enough watching what’s happened recently to other private servers, but now, Akka stepping away, that’s truly heartbreaking. His dedication and contribution to the project were nothing short of extraordinary. To me, he was EQEmu. And now, after nearly 20 years, it feels like it's all over in minutes.

Honestly, words can’t fully express what I’m feeling right now. I just quietly hope that this won’t be the final chapter in his EQEmu journey.

What will change with EQEmu?
Akkadius will be shutting down most of the services he maintained and that includes a large part of the EQEmu infrastructure. For more details, please check the EqEmu Discord.

How does this affect THF?
We’ve been quieter than usual lately, mostly because our small team of friends has been busy with real life. While active content development is currently on pause, we’re still here every single day, reading the forums, managing and maintaining the server and working to ensure a smooth, fun experience for our small but loyal player base. There are no plans to change that.

As for EQEmu’s future, hopefully, their core services (database, login server, etc.) will continue operating. But either way, your characters on THF are safe. Our database, game server, web services, private login server, everything THF related is hosted independently by our own team.

A sad day for the whole EqEmu Community.
